Branching Out

This past weekend, I officially branched out my shop! To my adorable handprinted baby clothes I’m adding fantastic handprinted infant carseat canopies!

I have lots of ideas, but to start things off I created a Greek Fret pattern and printed it in baby blue on a lovely green fabric. On the outside it may seem unassuming, but on the inside there is an adorable array of colors, patchworked together.I used all upcycled and repurposed fabrics to make this canopy.  In my searching through the little shops around Chicago, I found some really great patterns! These will dazzle your little one’s eyes!

Sharing the Love

Etsy is a living site; they’re always making improvements. Recently, an Activity Feed has been added. I love it!

There’s always been a link from my shop that I can click to see who has favorited my items or my shop. However,  it’s kind of off to the side and a little buried, so I rarely remember to click it.

Now, with this new Activity Feed feature, with one click, I can check what my Etsy friends have been up to and I can see when something of mine has caught another’s eye. It’s very validating!

From this new change, I was inspired to create a treasury that is a collection featuring fabulous items from some of the lovely shops of those who’ve favorited mine! Check it out!

Rose In Full Bloom

I decided that there needed to do some more fun, girly designs. What’s more girly than beautiful flowers?

As I was looking through my shop the other day, I decided that there needed to do some more fun, girly designs.

I’ve long been considering doing a flower design, but I wasn’t sure what style to use, or even which flower. So, I started perusing various sites to get an idea of how other designers utilized flowers.

In my seeking, I came across several purses that used roses in a really dramatic and striking way. On Etsy, SnazzyGirlDesigns showcased a wool bag with a huge flower.

Also, farragobags had some really great ones too, one of my favorites was the Plum Fun Flower Bag.

Even Nordstom’s was getting in on the action, with their satin clutch with a “two tone rosette”.

Flowers are a complicated design, with lots of little shapes. I knew a flower would be pretty, but I had been putting off completing the design to work on simpler ones. Now, with a concrete idea in mind, it was time to go ahead, get brave and do the complicated design.

Success! Very cute and girly, in all the best ways!

Amazing Aluminum

A while back, I posted about an upcycled treasury I’d assembled on Etsy. As I was paging through the listings, I found a wide assortment of amazing and beautiful things created from old soda cans. One of the items that I really was intrigued by was the Soda Can Flower Earrings by madeofpaperandthings.

A while back, I posted about an upcycled treasury I’d assembled on Etsy. Paging through the listings, to find cool things to fill my treasury, I found an amazingly wide assortment of unique and beautiful things created from old soda cans.

Who would have thought? Aluminum is so sharp! Those artists are much braver than I. I can hardly imagine how these things are made, or the various injuries sustained in their creation. (I have a hard enough time keeping my fingers intact as it is, without adding sharp art projects to the mix)   Still, these are things that I’m glad to know exist!

One of the items that I was especially intrigued by was the Soda Can Flower Earrings by madeofpaperandthings.  She has some really nice things in her shop (read more on her process and other crafts here), but these earrings really stood out to me. They’re so small and the petals so intricate. They really are quite beautiful! So, I caved and bought a pair.

They arrived early this week, nestled in a cute little box with some fabric padding:

Very impressive indeed!

Back to School

These days I have no actual or practical need for for anything specifically school oriented this time of year. However, knowing this still does nothing hinder the near instinctual draw to the isles showcasing the school supplies.

I know it’s not quite fall yet.. but school season is quickly approaching. You can tell this because of the drastic increase of  stores focusing on the sale of school supplies.

It’s been some time since I graduated. These days I have no actual or practical need for for anything specifically school oriented this time of year. However, knowing this still does nothing hinder the near instinctual draw to the isles showcasing the school supplies.

So, thusly inspired, I created this treasury of wonderfully school themed art:
